A mosquito net is designed to keep insects and other vermin at a distance and to ensure a good night’s rest. It only offers extra protection against (malaria) mosquitoes if it is closed on all sides, is made of durable polyester, the mesh itself is no larger than 1.75 mm.

While non-impregnated mosquito nets are ideal for home use but when travelling to regions with a malaria risk, an impregnated mosquito net is recommended since mosquitoes can still bite through a non-impregnated mosquito net. Impregnation offers extra safety as it prevents mosquitoes from landing on the net and kills the insect on contact. For regions with high malaria risks (tropical Africa, Amazon region, parts of South- East Asia), the World Health Organisation (WHO) recommends a Long Lasting impregnated mosquito net.
